Our RE school curriculum has been based around the 2022 Local Agreed Syllabus for Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire.  It promotes an enquiry approach and each term the unit of work is based around a key question. Our school schemes of work are taught in a deeper way, using a multi-disciplinary approach.  The three disciplines help RE to be seen from different perspectives, giving a broad and balanced approach to teaching and learning.  The disciplines we refer to as ‘The Lenses’ are: 

• Theological lens (Believing) - to explore concepts of believing such as the study of the nature of God, religious belief, practice and tradition. 

• Philosophical lens (Thinking) - to explore ideas about how people think / reason about the world around them such as the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality and existence. 

• Social Science lens (Living) - to think about how people live such as the branch of science devoted to the study of societies and the relationships among individuals within those societies. 

Our curriculum provides the children with the opportunity to develop knowledge about religions and Worldviews, which helps to make them skillful and sophisticated interpreters of the world around them. 

What do we mean by worldviews? 

The inclusion of worldviews enables young people to connect with religion(s) in a much more profound and inclusive way.

A worldviews approach enables pupils to explore and gain ownership of their own perspectives, fitting new understanding into their existing mental framework. We learn about religion and beliefs through connecting and contrasting them with our own way of seeing the world.'Ed Pawson (Diocesan Education Officer).
