Our aim is to not only embed the themes and principles of the EYFS curriculum but to create a secure and stimulating environment that nurtures children and helps them to become life-long learners and valued members of the community. As we are a small school, EYFS children are included in many aspects of whole school life, for example assemblies, special event days and rewards.  

The curriculum is an appropriate mix of formal and informal teaching and learning styles which we aim to develop not only academic learning but also support social, emotional and physical development. 

We believe that every child is a unique child who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured. A unique child reaches out to people and things, displaying Characteristics of effective learning which move through all areas of learning.

As part of our enhanced curriculum they will learn about British Values and gain basic knowledge and skills in areas that will help them to become empathetic and independent members of society-caring for themselves, for others and for the world around them.  Their play and activities will include learning about being a good parent, money awareness/saving, pet care, cooking, first aid, jobs, exploring the environment and learning about other cultures and generations in society.  We also want children to have access to a variety of experiences outside of the classroom including class visits to museums, galleries, theatre, cinema, the local forest school and whole school activities such as den building. We hope to build stronger links with people in our local community.

Maths in EYFS

A Long Term Planning Framework has been developed to teach the Early Learning Goals through the Development Matters Guidance and the NCETM 6 Key Areas for Early Mathematics Learning. Maths is taught daily with another, 5-10 minute session, 4 times a week of the NCETM Mastering Number Programme for Reception children. Opportunities to consolidate and further develop mathematical understanding is embedded throughout continuous provision and enhancements. We explore mathematical concepts both indoors and outdoors to help children apply their thinking to a range of real world contexts.
